Prohibited Goods
His Mount Vema Majesty’s Government prohibits the import and export of certain goods to and from the Kingdom of Mount Vema. The import and export of prohibited goods requires a written permission, provided you meet certain conditions and requirements. However, some goods are under absolute prohibition, where you are not allowed to import or export in any circumstance.

Name: Anabolic or androgenic substances
Category: Drugs, Medicines and Therapeutic Substances

Description
Anabolic and androgenic substances, also known as steroids, are prohibited from import into Mount Vema. Permission to import these substances is required. These substances can be dangerous to a person’s health if abused or not taken under medical supervision to treat a specific medical condition. Certain health supplements that claim to enhance muscle and bone growth may contain anabolic or androgenic substances.
You do not need a permit if you are a passenger on a ship or aircraft and you:carry a copy of your prescription or a letter (written in English) from your medical practitioner as evidence that the medicine is required as part of your medical treatment, and
carry no more than three months’ supply at the maximum recommended dosage for your personal use, or the use of a person under your care, and
carry the medicine in your accompanied baggage.
The exemption only applies to persons traveling to Mount Vema, but does not apply to sports competitors and persons associated with a sports competitor (such as a coach or manager).

Asbestos means the asbestiform varieties of mineral silicates including the following:

grunerite (or amosite) asbestos (brown)

a mixture that contains one or more of the minerals referred to above.

Body armour with anti-ballistic or anti-fragmentation properties that is designed to be worn by a person is prohibited from import into Mount Vema. Permission to import body armour may be granted by the Secretary of State.

Description
The goods covered by this control include raw, tanned or processed furs or pelts, and goods that may contain such fur, that are derived from the cat and dog species listed below. These species are more commonly referred to as domestic cat and dog breeds.
Cat fur - the pelt or hair of an animal of the species Felis catus.
Dog fur - the pelt or hair of an animal of the species Canis familiaris.

Description
The importation of certain glazed ceramic ware normally used for, or in connection with, the storage or consumption of food is prohibited, unless the goods comply with the methods of testing and permissible levels of metal release. This includes glazed pottery and ceramics used for tableware and cooking, but does not include decorative items manufactured solely for display on walls or stands.
To import these goods you will need to certify that the goods comply with Mount Vema standards. By obtaining a testing certificate verified by a legal entity of Mount Vema.

Description
Certain chemicals, including those covered by the international Chemical Weapons Convention, and related equipment, facilities, technologies and materials which have a legitimate commercial purpose may also be used in the development or production of weapons of mass destruction.

Description
Goods subject to a permanent ban including certain food, healthcare products, toys, and items containing leads. Requests to import these goods should be addressed to the secretary of state.

Description
The importation of cosmetic products containing more than 250mg/kg of lead or lead compounds is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
Exceptions:
Products containing more than 250mg/kg of lead acetate designed for use in hair treatments.
To import these products permission in writing is required from the secretary of state, or an authorized person. This permission must be produced to border officers or before the time of import.

Description
The import or export of counterfeit credit, debit or charge cards, and any type of currency is prohibited. To import these, an importer or exporter needs permission in writing from the secretary of state, or an authorized person.
This permission must be produced to the border officer at or before the time of import or export.

Goods prohibited from import and export from Mount Vema, unless permission has been granted by the Royal Mount Vema Department of Defence or an authorized person. The prohibition includes defence and related goods as well as dual use goods and technologies that have a valid commercial application, but may also be used in the development and deployment of military systems or weapons of mass destruction programs.

Description
Importation of dog breeds, or advertising matter relating to dogs, is not allowed under any circumstances. To import dogs, an importer needs permission in writing from the secretary of state, or an authorized person. This permission must be produced to the border officer at or before the time of import.
However, the importation of the above dangerous dog breeds and advertising matter relating to these dogs, are prohibited absolutely including dogs of the following breeds:

Description
All forms of drugs and medicine being chemicals are prohibited from import into Mount Vema. You must carry a copy of your prescription or a letter (written in English) from your medical practitioner as evidence that the medicine is required as part of your medical treatment, and carry no more than three months’ supply at the maximum recommended dosage for your personal use, or the use of a person under your care, and carry the medicine in your accompanied baggage. These exemptions apply only to passengers. Any amount of controlled medicines imported by other means, such as post or air cargo, requires a permit.

Description
Prohibited the importation of firearms, firearm accessories, firearm parts, firearm magazines, ammunition, a component of ammunition and imitation firearms (firearms and associated items) unless permission has been granted by the secretary of state or an authorized person or the police.
To obtain permission to import firearms and associated items, importers must demonstrate that the goods are being imported for a legitimate purpose. For firearms and associated items that are subject to the police certification test, importers should contact the police firearms and weapons registry to apply for police certification to import.

Description
Fish, or parts of fish and other marine organisms. Whether the fish are fresh, smoked, preserved in airtight containers or frozen. The importation of fish (as detailed above) is prohibited unless a permit has been granted.
An import permit is required where the fish:
is taken by a foreign registered vessel,
is taken in waters outside the Mount Vema fishing zone, and
has not been landed at a port or place in a country outside Mount Vema prior to importation.
A permit for the importation of fish can be granted by the secretary of state. In addition, foreign fishing boats seeking to enter a Mount Vema port must obtain a port permit prior to entry - except in emergency circumstances.
An import permit must be produced to the border officer at the time of importation.
Name: Growth hormones and substances of human or animal origin

Description
Medicine or products that are or include the following substances are prohibited from import into Mount Vema:
natural and manufactured gonadotrophins (including menotrophins, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinising hormone and human chorionic gonadotrophin), or
natural and manufactured growth hormones, including somatropin, somatrem, somatomedins and insulin-like growth factors (not insulins) and growth hormone releasing hormone (somatorelin and synthetic analogues). or
erythropoietin (EPO), or
darbepoetin alfa.
Permission to import these substances is required.
You do not need a permit if you are a passenger on a ship or aircraft and you:
carry a copy of your prescription or a letter (written in English) from your medical practitioner as evidence that the medicine is required as part of your medical treatment, and
carry no more than three months’ supply at the maximum recommended dosage for your personal use, or the use of a person under your care, and
carry the medicine in your accompanied baggage.
These exemptions apply only to passengers. Any amount of controlled drugs imported by other means, such as post or air cargo, requires a permit.
The exemption does not apply if a passenger is a:
sports competitor, or
person associated with a competitor such as a coach, manager or someone providing medical treatment.
Name: Hazardous waste

Description
Hazardous waste includes:
explosive,
flammable,
poisonous,
toxic,
ecotoxic, or
infectious substances.
Waste that is captured in at least one of the following categories and has one or more of the above characteristics is considered as hazardous waste:
clinical wastes
waste oils/water, hydrocarbons/water mixtures, emulsions
waste from the production, formulation and use of resins, latex, plasticizers or glues/adhesives
waste resulting from surface treatment of metals and plastics
waste which contain certain compounds such as: copper, zinc, cadmium, mercury, lead or asbestos
residue arising from industrial waste disposal operations
waste residue from manufacture
household waste
residue arising from the incineration of household waste
The import and export of hazardous waste is prohibited, unless a permit has been granted.
Permits for the import or export of hazardous waste can be issued. The type of hazardous waste permit required will depend on the country of origin or destination, and if certain conditions are met.
Valid permission to import or export hazardous waste must be produced to the border officer at the time of importation.
Name: Human body fluids, organs and other tissue

Description
Human body fluids, organs and other tissue including substances derived from human blood and tissue. The exportation of human body fluids, organs and other tissue and substances derived from human blood is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
Permission for the exportation of human body fluids, organs and other tissue and substances derived from human blood can be granted. However, requirements exclude human remains, which can be exported without a permit.
Valid permission to export must be produced to the border officer at the time of exportation.
Name: Imitation Firearms

Type: Import
Description
Imitation firearms are prohibited from import into Mount Vema unless permission has been granted by a relevant police representative.
Imitation firearms are defined as a copy or reproduction of a firearm, or an article that has the appearance of a firearm that could reasonably be taken to be a firearm.
Name: Knives and daggers
Category: Weapons
Type: Import
Description
Knives such as daggers, concealed knives/blades, karambits, throwing knives/blades/axes, star knives, push knives, and non-metallic or ceramic knives, blades and spikes are prohibited from import to Mount Vema.
Automatic knives, ballistic knives, balisongs, butterfly knives, sheath knives, and trench knives are also prohibited along with parts, training and novelty items that can be used to make these goods.
To import daggers and throwing knives, throwing blades or throwing axes and star knives you need written Police Certification from the Police Firearms Registry.
To import the other goods listed in the section above, import permission is required from the secretary of state.
Name: Laser pointers
Category: Consumer products
Type: Import
Description
Hand-held devices, known as laser pointers, designed or adapted to emit a laser beam with an accessible emission level greater than 1mW are classified as weapons. These laser pointers are prohibited from import into Mount Vema unless permission has been granted.
Before you apply for permission to import, you may need to obtain authorization to possess the laser pointer in Mount Vema.
Name: Lighters

Type: Import
Description
The importation of disposable lighters, novelty lighters, or refillable lighters, with the correct customs value or less, designed to light cigarettes, cigars and pipes, is prohibited, unless a certificate of compliance has been issued or permission has been granted.
To import lighters, the importer must:
have completed a statutory declaration, stating that a certificate of compliance within the meaning of the Mount Vema Standard has been issued in accordance with that standard, or
have written permission from the Treasurer.
A statutory declaration or written permission must be produced to the border officer at or before the time of import.
Exception:
You do not need permission to import up to five lighters if you are a passenger 18 years or older on a ship or aircraft entering Mount Vema.
Name: New psychoactive substances and serious drug alternatives

Type: Import
Description
Any substance that, when consumed, has the capacity to induce a psychoactive effect is prohibited from import into Mount Vema.
A psychoactive effect means:
the stimulation or depression of the person’s central nervous system, resulting in hallucinations or in a significant disturbance in, or significant change to, motor function, thinking, behaviour, perception, awareness or mood, or
causing a state of dependence, including physical or psychological addiction.
The following substances are restricted under other import controls:
food
tobacco products
therapeutic goods
agricultural chemicals
veterinary chemical products
industrial chemical
a plant or fungus (or extract thereof)
a controlled or border controlled drug, plant or precursor
a prohibited import under the Customs Act
substances imported by or on behalf of law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories or medical and scientific research facilities.
Any substance that is marketed as a serious alternative medicine is also prohibited from import into Mount Vema. Serious drug alternative means a substance that:
has a psychoactive effect that is the same as, or is substantially similar to, the psychoactive effect of a serious medicine, or
is a lawful alternative to a serious medicine.
A psychoactive substance that represents a serious alternative medicine is not a prohibited import if it is in:
food
therapeutic goods
agricultural chemicals
veterinary chemicals.
Name: Nuclear Material

Description
Nuclear materials such as uranium, thorium and fissionable materials including plutonium are prohibited from importation into Mount Vema.
Name: Ozone depleting substances/synthetic greenhouse
Category: Hazardous goods
Type: Import
Description
Ozone depleting substances (ODS) are substances that have a harmful and depleting effect on the ozone layer and are controlled by the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG) have a very high global warming potential and are listed under the Kyoto Protocol.
ODS and SGG controlled by the Montreal and Kyoto Protocols include:
Bromochloromethane
Bromomethane
Carbon tetrachloride
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
Halons
Hydrobromofluorocarbons (HBFCs).
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
Methyl bromide
Methyl chloroform
Nitrogen trifluoride
Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
Sulfur hexafluoride
Goods that commonly contain ODS and SGG include:
air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment (domestic and industrial)
some aerosol products
some fire extinguishers
foam blowing agents, and
insulating gas in electrical components.

Description
Paintball markers are prohibited from import into Mount Vema unless permission has been granted by a relevant police representative. Ammunition, magazines and other parts of paintball markers are also prohibited from import.
Name: Pesticides and other hazardous chemicals

Type: Import
Description
Organochlorine pesticide chemicals are persistent bio-accumulative pesticides that are toxic to humans and animals, and highly toxic to most aquatic life. These can be found in powder or liquid form. Organochlorine pesticides and other hazardous chemicals are restricted. The importation of Pesticides into Mount Vema is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
Name: Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Terphenyls and Polyphenyls - Chemicals
Category: Hazardous goods
Type: Import
Description
Polychlorinated biphenyls, terphenyls and polyphenyls are persistent organic pollutants that are highly toxic and pose a risk to human health, wildlife and the environment.
These chemicals have been used in electrical appliances (such as transformers and capacitors), as coolants (often in light fittings), hydraulic fluids, plasticisers and dye carriers.
The importation of these chemicals is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
This order applies to the following goods:
substances obtained by chlorinating biphenyls
goods containing substances obtained by chlorinating biphenyls
substances obtained by chlorinating terphenyls or other polyphenyls
goods containing substances obtained by chlorinating terphenyls or other polyphenyls.
Importation of any of these chemicals is prohibited unless permission to import has been obtained from the secretary of state or an authorized officer. Permission to import these chemicals is subject to conditions in regard to their custody, use, disposal or destruction, or with regard to accounting for the goods. Valid permission to import must be produced to the border officer at the time of importation.
Name: Pornography and objectionable material

Description
The import and export of objectionable goods is prohibited.
Goods and materials that may be refused classification under the Mount Vema Classification Code and the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games). This includes publications such as books, films, magazines, computer games and other written or pictorial matter. Other goods that are not subject to classification may also be objectionable goods under regulations.
Objectionable goods include material that describes, depicts, expresses or otherwise deals with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in a way that would offend a reasonable adult. It also includes goods that depict children under 18 years of age in a way that would offend a reasonable adult, promote crime or violence, promote drug misuse, or advocate the doing of a terrorist act.
The determination of whether goods are objectionable will take into account the overall context of the presentation of the goods in addition to certain specific characteristics. In relation to dolls manufactured for a sexual purpose, if the doll appears to be a depiction of a child under 18 years of age, the doll is considered to be objectionable and prohibited. Any accessories and instructional or descriptive material (including the marketing of the product) accompanying the doll will be taken into consideration when the age depiction of the doll is determined.
In strictly limited circumstances, the Director of the Classification Board may grant permission to import or export (import or export permit) objectionable goods. Personal use or entertainment is generally not sufficient grounds for granting a permit.
Penalties may apply to the importation and exportation of objectionable goods. Where the goods are considered to be commercial importations or exportations of child abuse material, more serious penalties apply including significant fines and/or imprisonment.

Description
Prescription medicines that are financially subsidized by the Mount Vema Government may be prohibited from export from Mount Vema. If you are an exporter, you can export a reasonable amount of medicine overseas for the personal treatment of yourself or another person, such as a child or elderly relative, accompanying you. If you intend to export, you require an export permit.

Description
Radioactive substances are prohibited from import into Mount Vema. This includes any radioactive material or substance including radium, any radioactive isotope or any article containing radioactive material or substance.
Name: Rough diamonds - Kimberley Process

Description
Rough diamonds are defined as diamonds that are unworked, or simply sawn, cleaved, bruted or roughly shaped. The importation of rough diamonds into Mount Vema is prohibited.
Name: Signal jammers / signal jamming devices

Description
Signal jammers can prevent or disrupt mobile phone and satellite navigation services. The importation of signal jammers into Mount Vema is prohibited, unless exempt.
Name: Tobacco and Alcohol

Description
Import of certain forms of tobacco and Alcohol products into Mount Vema is prohibited unless permission has been granted prior to importation or an exemption applies.
The following tobacco and Alcohol products are approved for importation into Mount Vema without the need to obtain a permit:
above the duty free allowance and imported by passengers or crew of a ship or aircraft arriving in Mount Vema if the person is at least 18 years of age. The products must be declared to the border officer on entry into Mount Vema and duty paid on importation,
imported for the purposes of transhipment to another country. The products must be correctly documented on the relevant cargo report and must not leave customs control.

Description
The importation of cosmetic products containing more than 250mg/kg of lead or lead compounds is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
Exceptions:
Products containing more than 250mg/kg of lead acetate designed for use in hair treatments.
To import these products permission in writing is required from the secretary of state, or an authorized person. This permission must be produced to border officers or before the time of import.

Description
The import or export of counterfeit credit, debit or charge cards, and any type of currency is prohibited. To import these, an importer or exporter needs permission in writing from the secretary of state, or an authorized person.
This permission must be produced to the border officer at or before the time of import or export.

Description
Goods prohibited from import and export from Mount Vema, unless permission has been granted by the Royal Mount Vema Department of Defence or an authorized person. The prohibition includes defence and related goods as well as dual use goods and technologies that have a valid commercial application, but may also be used in the development and deployment of military systems or weapons of mass destruction programs.

Description
Importation of dog breeds, or advertising matter relating to dogs, is not allowed under any circumstances. To import dogs, an importer needs permission in writing from the secretary of state, or an authorized person. This permission must be produced to the border officer at or before the time of import.
However, the importation of the above dangerous dog breeds and advertising matter relating to these dogs, are prohibited absolutely including dogs of the following breeds:
Dogo Argentino
Fila Brasileiro
Japanese Tosa
American pit bull terrier or pit bull terrier
Perro de Presa Canario or Presa Canario

Description
All forms of drugs and medicine being chemicals are prohibited from import into Mount Vema. You must carry a copy of your prescription or a letter (written in English) from your medical practitioner as evidence that the medicine is required as part of your medical treatment, and carry no more than three months’ supply at the maximum recommended dosage for your personal use, or the use of a person under your care, and carry the medicine in your accompanied baggage. These exemptions apply only to passengers. Any amount of controlled medicines imported by other means, such as post or air cargo, requires a permit.

Description
Prohibited the importation of firearms, firearm accessories, firearm parts, firearm magazines, ammunition, a component of ammunition and imitation firearms (firearms and associated items) unless permission has been granted by the secretary of state or an authorized person or the police.
To obtain permission to import firearms and associated items, importers must demonstrate that the goods are being imported for a legitimate purpose. For firearms and associated items that are subject to the police certification test, importers should contact the police firearms and weapons registry to apply for police certification to import.

Description
Fish, or parts of fish and other marine organisms. Whether the fish are fresh, smoked, preserved in airtight containers or frozen. The importation of fish (as detailed above) is prohibited unless a permit has been granted.
An import permit is required where the fish:
is taken by a foreign registered vessel,
is taken in waters outside the Mount Vema fishing zone, and
has not been landed at a port or place in a country outside Mount Vema prior to importation.
A permit for the importation of fish can be granted by the secretary of state. In addition, foreign fishing boats seeking to enter a Mount Vema port must obtain a port permit prior to entry - except in emergency circumstances.
An import permit must be produced to the border officer at the time of importation.
Name: Growth hormones and substances of human or animal origin

Description
Medicine or products that are or include the following substances are prohibited from import into Mount Vema:
natural and manufactured gonadotrophins (including menotrophins, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinising hormone and human chorionic gonadotrophin), or
natural and manufactured growth hormones, including somatropin, somatrem, somatomedins and insulin-like growth factors (not insulins) and growth hormone releasing hormone (somatorelin and synthetic analogues). or
erythropoietin (EPO), or
darbepoetin alfa.
Permission to import these substances is required.
You do not need a permit if you are a passenger on a ship or aircraft and you:
carry a copy of your prescription or a letter (written in English) from your medical practitioner as evidence that the medicine is required as part of your medical treatment, and
carry no more than three months’ supply at the maximum recommended dosage for your personal use, or the use of a person under your care, and
carry the medicine in your accompanied baggage.
These exemptions apply only to passengers. Any amount of controlled drugs imported by other means, such as post or air cargo, requires a permit.
The exemption does not apply if a passenger is a:
sports competitor, or
person associated with a competitor such as a coach, manager or someone providing medical treatment.

Description
Hazardous waste includes:
explosive,
flammable,
poisonous,
toxic,
ecotoxic, or
infectious substances.
Waste that is captured in at least one of the following categories and has one or more of the above characteristics is considered as hazardous waste:
clinical wastes
waste oils/water, hydrocarbons/water mixtures, emulsions
waste from the production, formulation and use of resins, latex, plasticizers or glues/adhesives
waste resulting from surface treatment of metals and plastics
waste which contain certain compounds such as: copper, zinc, cadmium, mercury, lead or asbestos
residue arising from industrial waste disposal operations
waste residue from manufacture
household waste
residue arising from the incineration of household waste
The import and export of hazardous waste is prohibited, unless a permit has been granted.
Permits for the import or export of hazardous waste can be issued. The type of hazardous waste permit required will depend on the country of origin or destination, and if certain conditions are met.
Valid permission to import or export hazardous waste must be produced to the border officer at the time of importation.
Name: Human body fluids, organs and other tissue

Description
Human body fluids, organs and other tissue including substances derived from human blood and tissue. The exportation of human body fluids, organs and other tissue and substances derived from human blood is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
Permission for the exportation of human body fluids, organs and other tissue and substances derived from human blood can be granted. However, requirements exclude human remains, which can be exported without a permit.
Valid permission to export must be produced to the border officer at the time of exportation.
Name: Imitation Firearms

Description
Imitation firearms are prohibited from import into Mount Vema unless permission has been granted by a relevant police representative.
Imitation firearms are defined as a copy or reproduction of a firearm, or an article that has the appearance of a firearm that could reasonably be taken to be a firearm.
Name: Knives and daggers
Category: Weapons
Type: Import
Description
Knives such as daggers, concealed knives/blades, karambits, throwing knives/blades/axes, star knives, push knives, and non-metallic or ceramic knives, blades and spikes are prohibited from import to Mount Vema.
Automatic knives, ballistic knives, balisongs, butterfly knives, sheath knives, and trench knives are also prohibited along with parts, training and novelty items that can be used to make these goods.
To import daggers and throwing knives, throwing blades or throwing axes and star knives you need written Police Certification from the Police Firearms Registry.
To import the other goods listed in the section above, import permission is required from the secretary of state.
Name: Laser pointers

Type: Import
Description
Hand-held devices, known as laser pointers, designed or adapted to emit a laser beam with an accessible emission level greater than 1mW are classified as weapons. These laser pointers are prohibited from import into Mount Vema unless permission has been granted.
Before you apply for permission to import, you may need to obtain authorization to possess the laser pointer in Mount Vema.
Name: Lighters

Type: Import
Description
The importation of disposable lighters, novelty lighters, or refillable lighters, with the correct customs value or less, designed to light cigarettes, cigars and pipes, is prohibited, unless a certificate of compliance has been issued or permission has been granted.
To import lighters, the importer must:
have completed a statutory declaration, stating that a certificate of compliance within the meaning of the Mount Vema Standard has been issued in accordance with that standard, or
have written permission from the Treasurer.
A statutory declaration or written permission must be produced to the border officer at or before the time of import.
Exception:
You do not need permission to import up to five lighters if you are a passenger 18 years or older on a ship or aircraft entering Mount Vema.
Name: New psychoactive substances and serious drug alternatives
Category: Drugs, Medicines and Therapeutic Substances
Type: Import
Description
Any substance that, when consumed, has the capacity to induce a psychoactive effect is prohibited from import into Mount Vema.
A psychoactive effect means:
the stimulation or depression of the person’s central nervous system, resulting in hallucinations or in a significant disturbance in, or significant change to, motor function, thinking, behaviour, perception, awareness or mood, or
causing a state of dependence, including physical or psychological addiction.
The following substances are restricted under other import controls:
food
tobacco products
therapeutic goods
agricultural chemicals
veterinary chemical products
industrial chemical
a plant or fungus (or extract thereof)
a controlled or border controlled drug, plant or precursor
a prohibited import under the Customs Act
substances imported by or on behalf of law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories or medical and scientific research facilities.
Any substance that is marketed as a serious alternative medicine is also prohibited from import into Mount Vema. Serious drug alternative means a substance that:
has a psychoactive effect that is the same as, or is substantially similar to, the psychoactive effect of a serious medicine, or
is a lawful alternative to a serious medicine.
A psychoactive substance that represents a serious alternative medicine is not a prohibited import if it is in:
food
therapeutic goods
agricultural chemicals
veterinary chemicals.

Description
Nuclear materials such as uranium, thorium and fissionable materials including plutonium are prohibited from importation into Mount Vema.
Name: Ozone depleting substances/synthetic greenhouse
Category: Hazardous goods
Type: Import
Description
Ozone depleting substances (ODS) are substances that have a harmful and depleting effect on the ozone layer and are controlled by the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG) have a very high global warming potential and are listed under the Kyoto Protocol.
ODS and SGG controlled by the Montreal and Kyoto Protocols include:
Bromochloromethane
Bromomethane
Carbon tetrachloride
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
Halons
Hydrobromofluorocarbons (HBFCs).
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
Methyl bromide
Methyl chloroform
Nitrogen trifluoride
Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
Sulfur hexafluoride
Goods that commonly contain ODS and SGG include:
air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment (domestic and industrial)
some aerosol products
some fire extinguishers
foam blowing agents, and
insulating gas in electrical components.

Description
Paintball markers are prohibited from import into Mount Vema unless permission has been granted by a relevant police representative. Ammunition, magazines and other parts of paintball markers are also prohibited from import.
Name: Pesticides and other hazardous chemicals
Category: Hazardous goods
Type: Import
Description
Organochlorine pesticide chemicals are persistent bio-accumulative pesticides that are toxic to humans and animals, and highly toxic to most aquatic life. These can be found in powder or liquid form. Organochlorine pesticides and other hazardous chemicals are restricted. The importation of Pesticides into Mount Vema is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
Name: Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Terphenyls and Polyphenyls - Chemicals
Category: Hazardous goods
Type: Import
Description
Polychlorinated biphenyls, terphenyls and polyphenyls are persistent organic pollutants that are highly toxic and pose a risk to human health, wildlife and the environment.
These chemicals have been used in electrical appliances (such as transformers and capacitors), as coolants (often in light fittings), hydraulic fluids, plasticisers and dye carriers.
The importation of these chemicals is prohibited, unless permission has been granted.
This order applies to the following goods:
substances obtained by chlorinating biphenyls
goods containing substances obtained by chlorinating biphenyls
substances obtained by chlorinating terphenyls or other polyphenyls
goods containing substances obtained by chlorinating terphenyls or other polyphenyls.
Importation of any of these chemicals is prohibited unless permission to import has been obtained from the secretary of state or an authorized officer. Permission to import these chemicals is subject to conditions in regard to their custody, use, disposal or destruction, or with regard to accounting for the goods. Valid permission to import must be produced to the border officer at the time of importation.
Name: Pornography and objectionable material

Description
The import and export of objectionable goods is prohibited.
Goods and materials that may be refused classification under the Mount Vema Classification Code and the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games). This includes publications such as books, films, magazines, computer games and other written or pictorial matter. Other goods that are not subject to classification may also be objectionable goods under regulations.
Objectionable goods include material that describes, depicts, expresses or otherwise deals with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in a way that would offend a reasonable adult. It also includes goods that depict children under 18 years of age in a way that would offend a reasonable adult, promote crime or violence, promote drug misuse, or advocate the doing of a terrorist act.
The determination of whether goods are objectionable will take into account the overall context of the presentation of the goods in addition to certain specific characteristics. In relation to dolls manufactured for a sexual purpose, if the doll appears to be a depiction of a child under 18 years of age, the doll is considered to be objectionable and prohibited. Any accessories and instructional or descriptive material (including the marketing of the product) accompanying the doll will be taken into consideration when the age depiction of the doll is determined.
In strictly limited circumstances, the Director of the Classification Board may grant permission to import or export (import or export permit) objectionable goods. Personal use or entertainment is generally not sufficient grounds for granting a permit.
Penalties may apply to the importation and exportation of objectionable goods. Where the goods are considered to be commercial importations or exportations of child abuse material, more serious penalties apply including significant fines and/or imprisonment.
Name: Prescription medicines

Description
Prescription medicines that are financially subsidized by the Mount Vema Government may be prohibited from export from Mount Vema. If you are an exporter, you can export a reasonable amount of medicine overseas for the personal treatment of yourself or another person, such as a child or elderly relative, accompanying you. If you intend to export, you require an export permit.

Description
Radioactive substances are prohibited from import into Mount Vema. This includes any radioactive material or substance including radium, any radioactive isotope or any article containing radioactive material or substance.

Description
Rough diamonds are defined as diamonds that are unworked, or simply sawn, cleaved, bruted or roughly shaped. The importation of rough diamonds into Mount Vema is prohibited.
Name: Signal jammers / signal jamming devices

Description
Signal jammers can prevent or disrupt mobile phone and satellite navigation services. The importation of signal jammers into Mount Vema is prohibited, unless exempt.
Name: Tobacco and Alcohol
Category: Drugs, Medicines and Therapeutic Substances
Type: Import
Description
Import of certain forms of tobacco and Alcohol products into Mount Vema is prohibited unless permission has been granted prior to importation or an exemption applies.
The following tobacco and Alcohol products are approved for importation into Mount Vema without the need to obtain a permit:
above the duty free allowance and imported by passengers or crew of a ship or aircraft arriving in Mount Vema if the person is at least 18 years of age. The products must be declared to the border officer on entry into Mount Vema and duty paid on importation,
imported for the purposes of transhipment to another country. The products must be correctly documented on the relevant cargo report and must not leave customs control.
