Our Work
Our work consists of promoting the cause of justice and the Rule of Law of Mount Vema; Providing a forum for the exchange of information of mutual interest to Mount Vema’s law professionals working from anywhere in the world; Undertaking initiatives on behalf of Mount Vema’s law professionals; Speaking internationally on behalf of Mount Vema’s law society; Informing the public and the legal entities of Mount Vema, His Mount Vema Majesty’s governments and members of the legal profession about the role, responsibilities and activities of the Law Society of Mount Vema; Sharing the expertise of Mount Vema’s law professionals from across the world and to contribute towards the development of an effective regulation of one of the most independent professions (the legal profession) of the Kingdom of Mount Vema.

The Codes of Conduct
Members of the Mount Vema legal profession are required to conduct themselves in accordance with the following basic principles, among others:
1.     Act honourably and with integrity;
2.     Provide competent legal services;
3.     Serve clients in a courteous and prompt manner;
4.     Respect client confidences;
5.     Maintain loyalty to clients and avoid conflicts of interest;
6.     Ensure that fees for services are fair and reasonable;
7.     Safeguard and preserve funds and property entrusted to them by their clients;
8.     When acting as advocate, treat Courts with civility and respect; and
9.     Encourage public respect for the administration of justice.

Complaints and Discipline                                                            
The law society of Mount Vema is responsible for handling complaints about members of the legal profession licensed to practise the laws of the Kingdom of Mount Vema. The Law Society of Mount Vema works with lawyers to develop high standards for how they handle complaints to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and openly and their concerns addressed promptly, wherever in Mount Vema or in the world they use the services of members of the Mount Vema legal profession. The breach of the law society rules by members of the profession is a serious matter. A member of a law society who is found to be in violation of the rules may be subject to a wide variety of disciplinary measures, including reprimands, fines, or the imposition of conditions of practise, suspension or disbarment.
The Independence of the Legal Profession
A central feature of the legal system of the Kingdom of Mount Vema is the right to obtain legal advice and be represented by a legal profession that is independent of the government. For that reason, the laws of the Kingdom of Mount Vema provide for the self-regulation of the legal profession. All of the work the Law Society of Mount Vema do to protect the public is paid for entirely by members of the legal profession itself.

One of the key strengths of Mount Vema’s legal system is the clear distinction between the function of the law society and that of members of the profession. The function of the law society is to regulate the legal profession in the interest of everyone, as it is the function of members of the profession, such as the Mount Vema Bar Association, to speak for and represent the interests of their members.

Funding
The Law Society of Mount Vema receives its income from a number of sources, including:
  • A Practising Certificate fee, which is compulsory for those wanting to practise as a solicitor.
  • A membership fee, which is voluntary for those wanting to be a member of the Mount Vema Law Society.
  • Income from the sale or access to publications, members’ service products, continuing legal education courses and conferences.
  • Rent from tenants in Legal building and facilities of Mount Vema.
  • Interest on investments.
How to register and obtain a practicing certificate
To register as a Mount Vema legal professional (solicitor) and to obtain a practicing certificate, you must visit the official contact page, fill out the contact form, and attach a letter of Expression of Interest to the attention of the 'Registration and Certifications Officer' at The Law Society of Mount Vema. Once your letter is received, you will receive a formal invitation with the application form. Then you must pay the required fee in order to process your application.

Practising Certificate Renewal Fee: 250 golles
Registration Renewal Fee: 250 golles
