Mount Vema marks 14 years as a sovereign territory - Independence Day 2020!

July 31, 2020 – Mount Vema – Mount Vema marks the 14th birthday of the Kingdom of Mount Vema. This 1st of August 2020 the territory celebrates 14 years since the Vema Seamount territory was declared independent, on the First of August of Two Thousand and Six. The day Peter J. Goldishman declared Vema Seamount sovereign. The territory was never a nation or part of a nation, an empire or part of an empire, nor a trusteeship. 2006 does not represent "independence" in the strict sense, but rather a significant nationhood event which is the founding date of the nation. The significant establishment of statehood based on an ancient island (known today as Vema Seamount) which has eroded by millions of years of wave action.
