|
The Mount Vema Police has the power to stop, search and arrest people, and vessels within the Vema Seamount territorial waters. When stopping a vessel, or person on reasonable suspicion, the police officer will be in uniform or if not the officer will produce the documentary evidence that he is a police officer.
Reasonable suspicion will never be supported on the bases of personal factors alone such as age, colour, hairstyle, manner of dress or a known previous conviction. In all cases, before commencing the search the police officer must by law activate his police video recorder, and state his name, specify the object of the proposed search and the grounds for proposing the search. When this procedure is not followed the search becomes unlawful.
